Volkswagen | Annie. The Beetle.

What keeps this Beetle running? Love.

A holiday homecoming: Volkswagen Beetle owner of 51 years reunited with 'Annie' after once-in-a-lifetime factory restoration.

Eleven-month project with Puebla team members celebrates a dedicated California Beetle owner

Kathleen Brooks bought her first Beetle in December 1966 in Riverside, Calif.—a red 1967 model she quickly named “Annie.” Ever since, Annie has been Kathleen’s daily transportation, racking up more than 350,000 miles over 51 years, or enough to circle the globe 14 times, and Kathleen, now 73, still drives Annie to work.

After hearing about Kathleen and Annie’s special relationship last year, Volkswagen’s North American Region undertook an unusual project—offering to restore Annie at the North American home of the Beetle at the Puebla, Mexico, factory. Over the past 11 months, a team of some 60 Volkswagen employees and trainees reworked Annie back to factory-quality specs, with several custom touches that celebrate Kathleen’s dedication. This week, Kathleen and Annie were reunited, and Kathleen met key members of the Volkswagen team that led the restoration.

Over 11 months, the Puebla team replaced roughly 40 percent of Annie’s parts and restored 357 original pieces, down to recreating the stickers that Brooks had added to the body and windows over the years. To properly restore her faded red paint, the team matched the original shade from the inside of the glovebox, sandblasted the body, repaired with a mix of period-correct and updated parts, and then reassembled.

A Typhoon Could Not Stop Us At Suzuka 8hr

The eight hours of Suzuka, the big one, is a challenge that intimidates even the fiercest riders and makes for the perfect finale for this years EWC Championship.

For the 8 hours of Suzuka, the challenge is always twofold. First of all, there are the conditions which at this time of year are very hot and very humid and demand a lot from the riders and then there’s the track itself. With a length of 5,8km’s and combining fast and technical curves culminating in a figure of eight, it’s one of the longest and most demanding on the calendar.

On top of that, and mostly due to the significance of this race, a lot of factory teams not competing in a full season of the EWC make the effort to contest this 8-hour battle. Also for regular teams, the race in Suzuka is one of the most important. Not just because it’s the season finale but mostly because at the end of the race there are 150% of the regular points to score which could effectively change the outcome of the championship.

This year's event, however, added another challenge. A Typhoon was to strike the Suzuka area during the race weekend and it did. The night before the race torrential rainfall and wind up to 170km/h caused significant damage to the infrastructures at the track but an impressive tour de force from the staff and crews at the track made sure everything was repaired and at 11:30 local time the green flag dropped.

The eight-hour endurance battle which was to end at nightfall was riddled with rain showers followed by a quickly drying track because of the high temperatures. This meant a lot of riders got into trouble by the weather getting caught out in the rain while riding on slick tires. After six hours of racing, no one knew who had the upper hand. Team Honda, Kawasaki Team green, and the Yamaha Factory Racing team were constantly dicing for the lead. When night fell and the chequered flag was waved it was the Yamaha team that came out on top for the fourth consecutive time confirming their place as kings of Suzuka.

The New Volvo V60: Protect What's Important To You

Protect what's important to you.

People are different.
We all come from different places.
Believe in different things.
Marry different people.
And yet, oddly, we are all the same.

We all share the same desire for happiness and prosperity. We all crave the same feeling of safety and security. And we all care about those close to us. So there is truth to the old saying; family comes first.

No matter who you are, where you live, or with whom you share your life, family really does come first, because family is always there for you. Through the good and bad. Through hardships and successes. They are the people that make you smile. And cry. While it's not always easy to form a family. Or keep one together. At the end of the day, they are what's important to us and who we want to keep safe.

2018 BMW M5 vs. 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Comparison | Edmunds

Edmunds senior writers Carlos Lago and Mark Takahashi test and compare the 2018 BMW M5 and the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S. These two super sedans offer sports car athleticism from their 600-horsepower V8 engines and sharp handling, but they're also five-seat luxury sedans with large, usable trunks. While those attributes are exciting enough, both cars have advanced all-wheel-drive systems that bestow them with rapid acceleration. But when you want to show off, you can switch them to rear-wheel drive for unending displays of tire-shredding goodness. What's the best way to compare these two? A drag race and a show of sideways fun.

Q: What kind of engine and transmission do the 2018 BMW M5 and the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S have?
A: The M5 has a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque) and an eight-speed automatic. The E63 S uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 (603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque) and a nine-speed automatic.

Q: How much does the 2018 BMW M5 and 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S cost?
A: The M5 starts at $104,595, including destination and gas-guzzler tax, while the E63 begins at $105,395, including destination. (It does not get a gas-guzzler tax.) Both vehicles in this video had a few options, such as carbon-ceramic brakes. The BMW came outfitted with 20-inch wheels and the Executive package, which added amenities such as ventilated and massaging seats. Its as-tested price was $129,795. The Mercedes included bucket-style seats with heating and ventilation, and it totaled $135,780.

Q: How fast are the 2018 BMW M5 and the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S?
A: When it comes to acceleration, the difference between the two comes down to a difference that's so small that it disappears with rounding. During testing, the M5 reached 60 mph in 3.2 seconds (3.0 seconds with a 1-foot rollout, as on a drag strip) and clocked a quarter-mile time of 11.1 seconds at 126.2 mph. The E63 S passed 60 mph in 3.2 seconds (3.0 seconds with a 1-foot rollout, as on a drag strip) and passed the quarter-mile in 11.1 seconds at 124.1 mph.

Motul Goes A Step Beyond With A New Racing Oil: Motul 300V² 10W50

Motul is launching its new engine oil, 300V² 10W-50, for race use. A direct evolution from the legendary 300V, this new racing oil will bring extra performances validated by top-tier factory teams in both On-road and Off-road applications.

It is now considered as THE reference by many teams and used in the most legendary races, both On-road and Off-road.

In this same pursuit of performance, Motul has developed the 300V² 10W-50.

This new technology of racing engine oil has chemical and mechanical characteristics that upgrade its performance.

For Off-road use:

- Low oil film traction at low revolution speed offering increased torque

- Optimized friction control offering increased clutch grip for better motricity

- High shear stability offering increased gearbox reliability

For On-road/track use:

- Low oil film friction at high revolution speed offering increased maximum power output

- Optimized oxidation stability offering increased oil durability

- Improved engine cleanliness offering constant engine performance

As well as offering higher performance, this new product has an organic base limiting its environmental impact thanks to:

- Use of non-fossil renewable materials

- Carbon footprint lowered 18% during the manufacturing process

2019 Mercedes G-Class Vs 2019 Land Rover Defender

G-CLASS
As direct as possible, as indirect as necessary

As standard, the G-Class is now fitted with electromechanical rack-and-pinion steering, which now allows driving assistance systems such as Parking Assist to be implemented. In addition, the electromechanical steering uses less energy than a hydraulically assisted steering system. Depending on the driving mode, one of three sets of steering characteristic lines, namely Comfort, Sport and Off-road, comes into effect. This ensures a comfortable or sporty steering feel on the road, but also straightforward and precise feedback in unpaved and demanding terrain - always paired with sufficient steering power assistance. In a nutshell: as direct as possible, as indirect as necessary.

Stronger than time
The G-Class is the top model among luxury off-road vehicles. It is not only the passenger car model series with the longest production run in the history of Mercedes-Benz by far, but also the forefather of all SUVs to bear the three-pointed star – this is why all Mercedes off-road models feature the upper-case G in their name.

What began in 1972 with a collaboration agreement between then Daimler-Benz AG and Steyr-Daimler-Puch in the Austrian city of Graz is now a story peppered with superlatives and significant milestones. The first concept to be developed was already different. The team designed a vehicle which impressed with superior off-road capability, while at the same time appealing to customers as a full-featured and safe vehicle suitable for recreational purposes. All-wheel drive and 100-percent differential locks have also been part of the "G" since that time, as has the robust ladder-type frame.
At the time of its market launch, in the spring of 1979, it was available with a choice of four engine variants covering a performance range from of 53 kW/72 hp to 115 kW/156 hp. Customers had the option of a Cabriolet with a short wheelbase or Station Wagon models with short or long wheelbase. In 1989 the vehicles of the model series 463 marked the beginning of an evolutionary process for the off-roader that was not just about keeping pace with technical progress. It was an evolution that also brought a steadily expanding fan base and emphasized its character as an exclusive vehicle for any occasion. And, since 1993, a vehicle with an official name: the G-Class.
The G-Class models used for the "Popemobile" are famous around the world. The off-road Mercedes-Benz 230 G painted in mother of pearl with a transparent special body accompanied Pope John Paul II on numerous journeys from 1980.
The 25th anniversary of the G-Class was marked by the arrival of a very special model on the market, honed by Mercedes-AMG: the G 55 AMG Kompressor. Its eight-cylinder power unit (350 kW/476 hp, 700 Nm of torque) gave the robust off-roader an unprecedented level of performance and demonstrated the tremendous potential of the G-Class.
